Bird still adjusting as left field Bronco

Brisbane's Jack Bird is confident of forming a deadly combination with James Roberts this NRL season despite still adjusting to life as a left centre.

Fitness may no longer be a concern for Jack Bird but the injury-plagued Brisbane X-factor admits working out how to play left centre is still a problem.

Yet Bird is confident of making up for lost time at the Broncos and forming a deadly centre combination with NSW strike weapon James Roberts this NRL season.

Bird said he was finally injury-free, backing up well from last week's trial against Wynnum Manly - his first game in 287 days after a nightmare 2018 Broncos debut season.

The former Cronulla star arrived at Red Hill last year amid much fanfare on a four-year deal reportedly worth $4 million.

But the ex-NSW utility failed to deliver bang for the bucks, as he was limited to just eight NRL games due to his recovery from a shoulder reconstruction and then a sternum injury.

Now fully fit, Bird admitted he still faced a challenge ahead of the 2019 season - learning how to play on the left side of the field.

Bird won the 2016 premiership with Cronulla at right centre.

But he knew that position would never be up for grabs at Brisbane due to Roberts' presence.

Bird hoped to graduate from his left centre crash course against the Titans.

"I am still trying to get used to it (left centre). It's pretty hard. I have played on the right pretty much my whole life," Bird told AAP.

"Adjusting to the left edge is not as easy as everyone thinks.

"I am getting there but it takes times. Hopefully I can get it down pat this weekend - that's what trials are for."

Bird was still hopeful his centre combination with Roberts would make an impact.

But Bird admitted simply running out on the field for Brisbane regularly would be an achievement after his disastrous 2018.

"We all know what Jimmy can do so I am really looking forward with forming a combination with him and linking up in the middle when he is skipping over," Bird said.

"But I am just looking forward to playing footy with the boys. It's something I missed very much last year - I can't wait."
