Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop is becoming well acquainted with the Trump clan.

Ms Bishop, who is leading the Australian delegation at the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week after Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull opted not to attend, has had multiple discussions with US President Donald Trump and sat down for a meeting with "first daughter" Ivanka Trump on Wednesday.

Ms Bishop also posted a photo on Twitter with herself, partner David Panton and Mr Trump and first lady Melania Trump together at a UN event.

The foreign minister and Ivanka Trump, who holds the official title of senior adviser to the president, originally met at the UN on Tuesday at events to combat human trafficking, forced labour and modern slavery. They then decided to follow up with a sit-down meeting on Wednesday to gauge if there were opportunities for Australia to partner with Ms Trump and her foundation.

"She's charming, delightful, very intelligent and a committed young woman and I'm very pleased to get to know her and to be part of opportunities her foundation and the US administration more generally may have in working with Australia on these issues of ending modern slavery, forced labour and human trafficking, but also more positive areas like promoting female entrepreneurship," Ms Bishop told reporters.

Ms Bishop will deliver Australia's address to the UN General Assembly on Friday (Saturday 2am AEST).

The foreign minister said she spoke to Mr Trump at a UN luncheon in New York on Tuesday, shortly after the president's fiery speech to the General Assembly.

Ms Bishop also caught up with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley on Tuesday evening where they discussed "the current circumstances facing the Korean peninsula, North Korea's continued violation of numerous UN Security Council resolutions".

Mr Trump is threatening to pull the US out of the Iran nuclear deal former US president Barack Obama negotiated when he was in the White House.

Ms Bishop said Australia would wait to hear what the president's final decision was on the Iran deal "but we are of course committed to ensuring Iran takes responsibility as a significant power in the Middle East for peace, stability and security and it not add in anyway to the instability in the region".
