Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has taken her opposition counterpart on a visit to three Pacific island nations.

Ms Bishop will be joined by Labor's foreign affairs spokeswoman Penny Wong for discussions with the leaders of the Solomon Islands, Samoa and Vanuatu during the next three days.

A range of issues, including regional stability, development challenges and emergency responses, is on the agenda.

Ms Bishop said the combined visit would emphasise Australia's bipartisan commitment to stability and economic growth in the Pacific.

That includes Australia's continuing commitment to peace and stability in the Solomons Islands after the withdrawal of the Regional Assistance Mission in June 2017.
