Cate Blanchett, George Miller and Mad Max: Fury Road continue to roll through Hollywood awards season and to a likely grand finale at February's Oscars.
Blanchett and Miller, along with many of Hollywood's biggest stars and filmmakers including Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio and Charlize Theron, were nominated for Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) international awards on Tuesday.
Joel Edgerton and Judy Davis also received nods.
The awards, a US off-shoot of the domestic AACTA ceremony held in Sydney last month, have squeezed their way into Hollywood's busy awards season with winners announced in Los Angeles on January 29.
Blanchett is nominated for best actress for her performance in Carol, playing a lesbian in 1950s New York.
The other nominees are: Emily Blunt (Sicario); Brie Larson (Room); Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn); and Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road).
Miller picked up two nominations, best director and best picture, for Mad Max: Fury Road while Edgerton received a supporting actor nod for Black Mass.
The other directing nominees are: Ridley Scott (The Martian); Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (The Revenant); Adam MacKay (The Big Short); Todd Haynes (Carol).
Best film nominees challenging Mad Max: Fury Road are: The Big Short: Carol; The Revenant; Spotlight.
The other supporting actor nominees are: Christian Bale (The Big Short); Paul Dano (Love and Mercy); Benicio del Toro (Sicario); Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies).
Davis received her supporting actress nod for The Dressmaker, but faces stiff competition from Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), Rooney Mara (Carol) and Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight).
The Academy Awards nominations will be announced on January 14 and the winners revealed on February 28.
Mad Max: Fury Road's march toward a haul of Oscars among its key crew members also became louder with Mad Max production designer Colin Gibson nominated on Tuesday by the Art Directors Guild.
