Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says she's "very confident" she can meet her pledge to create 100,000 new jobs by the next state election.

The premier made the promise before winning the 2009 election and is still 23,300 jobs short of her goal.

She told reporters on Monday she believed the target could be reached by the next election, due in March 2012.

"I always knew it would be an ambitious target, but it's a very important one," she told reporters in Rockhampton.

"We're very confident that our jobs programs and the developments that we've seen in many parts of Queensland now will drive that number to 100,000 by the next election."
