A breakthrough by scientists in Germany offers new hope to people with some forms of blindness.

They've pioneered the use of an experimental chip - which is fitted behind the retina. One man with aninherited form of blindness has been able to identify letters and aclock face, thanks to the implant.

Success was also reported in other patients.
