Firefighters will continue backburning a major fire in the NSW Blue Mountains but say there is no longer any direct threat to property.
The blaze in the Blaxland-Warrimoo area has seen around 260 firefighters and eight helicopters on scene, with the fire having burnt almost 120 hectares.
No property has been damaged and the NSW Rural Fire Service have downgraded the blaze to Advice level after it previously being an Emergency incident.
"The level of fire activity for the area is low and we're now advising residents to keep an eye on things and monitor the situation," an RFS spokesman told AAP on Saturday.
"There will be plenty of firefighters remaining in the area over the next few days."
He said the improvement in the situation was a combination of the more favourable conditions and the good work of fire crews.
Smoke is drifting across the Blue Mountains and is visible from some distance away.
Stronger than expected southerly winds hampered efforts on Friday but the conditions later eased and firefighters began backburning behind homes in the area.
At its height the fire crept dangerously close to properties, forcing the temporary closure of the Great Western Highway while train services were put on pause on the Blue Mountains Line.
There are currently 44 fires burning across the state, with only "a handful" uncontained and no others in the Blue Mountains, the spokesman added.
The RFS has five total fire bans in place for tomorrow - in the Far North Coast, North Coast, New England, Northern Slopes and North Western areas.
