Blues stand firm in AFL trade talks

Carlton loom as a key player in the coming AFL trade period as they try to get the best-possible deals for Lachie Henderson and Chris Yarran.

Carlton have reiterated their demand for first-round draft picks in return for disgruntled AFL stars Lachie Henderson and Chris Yarran.

Henderson, who is out of contract, wants to move to Geelong while Yarran is keen on joining Richmond at the AFL trade period that starts on Monday.

"Let's make it very, very clear that (Yarran) is a contracted player so we'll be fighting tooth-and-nail for the best possible pick for Chris because he is a quality player," Carlton football manager Andrew McKay told the AFL's website.

"We want a first-round pick. Richmond are baulking at that by the sound of it, but that's just all part of the negotiation process."

McKay is more confident of getting a deal done with the Cats to send Henderson on his way.

"We're in discussions with Geelong and they haven't indicated to us they won't have a first-round pick available to us," he said.

The Cats will join the Blues as key players in the off-season player movement periods, with Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield their main prize.

The 25-year-old restricted free agent has expressed his desire to switch to Geelong but the Crows have vowed to get a better deal than the AFL compensation pick (No.14) currently on offer.

The Cats are also hopeful of signing West Coast's Scott Selwood, who is also a restricted free agent.
