Blues wary of high-octane Crows in AFL

Carlton must find more scoring power while also curbing Adelaide's potent attack in their AFL showdown at the MCG.

Carlton's task on Sunday isn't an easy one - the Blues must find a way to curb Adelaide's rampant AFL attack at the MCG, while fixing their own misfiring forward line at the same time.

The fifth-placed Crows lead the league in scoring with an average of 113 points a game and will be aiming for their seventh win on the trot, while Carlton have averaged just 63 points over their past three matches - all losses.

"And it's by no means the only strength of Adelaide's ... they defend really well and their midfield is quite strong in terms of winning the footy," Blues assistant coach Tim Clarke told AAP.

"We know we've got to prepare really well for all facets of their game, but it's well documented how well they've been scoring ... their forward line is really dangerous.

"Guys like Eddie Betts, Taylor Walker and Charlie Cameron - all of their forwards really - are very aggressive on transition.

"It's important to get the right match-ups and to put plenty of pressure on around the footy. It's really important that our midfield and our forwards put plenty of pressure on Adelaide's transition."

Goals have been hard to come by for most of the season as Brendon Bolton has set about reshaping the Blues, but his attack is boosted this week by the return of Dennis Armfield from injury.

The resurgent veteran has managed two bags of three goals this year and replaces Ciaran Byrne after a ruptured ACL.

Carlton have said they'll take a team defence approach to curbing the Crows, but there's no doubt they'll be hoping for another strong performance from former Brisbane half-back Sam Docherty, who is enjoying a stellar season.

"He's a highly skilled player and he plays with great intensity, which is probably why he has been eye-catching," Clarke said.

"Not only does he get a lot of the footy but the way he defends and the way that he pressures the opposition is elite.

"He shuts down an opposition player every week and also provides plenty of attack himself. You only have to come and watch him train and you'll get a good guide as to why he's having such a good season."

Adelaide have made one change, bringing in defender Ricky Henderson for Luke Brown, who has a groin injury.
