Boat collision off Java leaves 15 missing

At least 15 Indonesian fishermen are missing and others are injured after a collision between their boat and a Vietnamese vessel off Java.

Fifteen people are missing and 12 others injured after a Vietnamese boat collided with a fishing vessel off the Indonesian island of Java.

The Vietnamese-flagged MV Thaison rammed into the rear of the Mulya Sejati on Saturday as most of the 27 local fishermen on board slept, said Sutopo Nugroho, spokesman for Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency.

All of the missing and injured were on the Indonesian boat, he said.

The MV Thaison was carrying 22 people, all Vietnamese nationals, Sutopo said.
