Boat sinks off Tunisia, at least 70 dead

At least 70 people have drowned after a boat sank off the Tunisian city of Sfax.

At least 70 migrants have drowned after their boat sank off the Tunisian coast, Tunisia's state news agency TAP says.

Coastguard units are trying to recover the bodies of the dead off the Tunisian coastal city of Sfax, the agency adds, citing local officials.

Sixteen other people were rescued by fishermen near the site of the accident, according the report.

The sunken boat is believed to have set sail for Europe from neighbouring Libya.
