Police believe a body found in a national park northeast of Perth is missing New Zealand man Michael Junior Huria, who relatives thought might have gone on a spiritual journey.
The 23-year-old, who is believed to be from Wellington and also went by the surname Sullivan, had not been in touch with family or friends since leaving his Ellenbrook home just after 4am on August 22.
A bushwalker found the body about 3.30pm on Sunday in the Walyunga National Park, in bushland between Walyunga Pool and Bells Rapids.
Police said on Monday the body was believed to be Mr Huria.
"Coronial and forensic officers will attend the scene this morning to conduct further inquiries," a spokeswoman said.
Mr Huria's family and friends have already begun posting tributes to him online, including his brother Tamati, who shared a photograph of the pair on Facebook.
"Love you so much little brother I know your soul is at peace we will be together again one day brother fly high in the arms of the angels," he wrote.
Tamati said while his younger brother looked up to him, he looked up to his little brother who had "nothing but love to give in a cruel world and never held back on that".
He told reporters on Saturday that his brother was a "bit lost at the moment" and had recently quit his job as a builder.
"We don't know but we think he might have gone out on a spiritual journey of some kind - he's quite inclined in that way," he said.
A woman told police she thought she might have struck a pedestrian in the area last Monday night.
