A body found near a Las Vegas freeway airport interchange is that of an 84-year-old Australian tourist who was reported missing from a Las Vegas Strip resort, US authorities have confirmed.

The Clark County coroner said on Wednesday that investigators were still trying to determine how Thuoc Van Dong, from Collingwood in Melbourne, died.

Las Vegas police say the body was found about 9am on Tuesday near the Airport Connector road and tunnel beneath McCarran International Airport and the 215 Beltway.

Police had said Dong was last seen about 5pm on Sunday in the lobby of the MGM Grand resort.

They said Dong didn't speak English, and had signs of early stage Alzheimer's disease.
