Jenon Biwot was swimming at Claytons Beach near Mindarie Marina yesterday when he and a friend were caught in a rip.

The friend was pulled to safety but Jenon disappeared.

A police spokesman confirmed Jenon's body was recovered at around 11.40am local time, WA Today reported.

"The body is recovered by water police to Fremantle and the family are being advised."

Earlier today Jenon's father, Materno Biwot, told ABC News the family has little hope he will be found alive.

"The news is not going well with us, it's quite heartbreaking," he said.

"But, we are very grateful for the support and all the work that is being done here, especially from the police and the emergency services."

The police have been talking to me quite a lot, they've been very supportive, and even other people that I've met here on the beach have been helpful."

Mr Biwot and his family are originally from South Sudan, arriving in Perth three years ago from a Uganda refugee camp. Jiwon was born in the camp.

A 47-year old man died after getting caught in the same area earlier this year.
