A body found by police off Bondi Beach has been formally identified as US student Endicott Ackerman, who was last seen jumping off rocks and into a post-storm swell on June 6.

Police say the body of the 20-year-old was retrieved from the ocean on Saturday morning, with dental records confirming on Wednesday it was the University of Sydney student from Clifton, Virginia.

Mr Ackerman is the third confirmed death in NSW as a result of the storms that lashed the state earlier this month.
