A man's body has been recovered after becoming trapped in an ink tank at a factory in Sydney's west.
A complex rescue operation was launched at an Auburn ink factory about 8.45am on Thursday following reports three men had been injured.
Two workmates in their 20s, one contractor and one employee, were freed from the tank and transported to Westmead Hospital where they remain in a serious but stable condition.
The third man, a 42-year-old contractor, died at the scene, a NSW Ambulance spokesman said.
"This is a terrible tragedy," NSW Ambulance Superintendent Paul Turner said in a statement.

"We did absolutely everything we could. It was a complex operation. We worked as quickly as we could to access these patients."
The man's body was removed from the ink tank on Thursday afternoon and his next of kin has been notified, a NSW Police spokeswoman told AAP.
Detectives have established a crime scene and are investigating.
SafeWork NSW has also sent inspectors to the site to investigate, a spokesman told AAP.
