Bogut plenty to say, Perth show depth

Perth have consolidated top spot in the NBL despite injuries while Sydney star Andrew Bogut has had plenty to say on social media.

Injury ravaged Perth have underlined their depth with an NBL double in a round in which the league's highest profile player Andrew Bogut had plenty to say.

Missing Angus Brandt, Terrico White and Damian Martin and fielding just one import in Bryce Cotton, Perth beat Illawarra 90-81 in Wollongong on Sunday to move to 7-1.

Cotton scored 19, Clint Steindl hit his first five three-point attempts and finished on 18, along with former Hawk Nick Kay.

On Friday at home to Brisbane, Cotton piled up 37, including the match-winning three-pointer, as Brandt played less than five minutes due to an ankle injury and Martin and White didn't play at all.

Melbourne guard Casper Ware put on a 34-point show on Sunday, as United overcame a third-quarter 12-point deficit to score a 87-80 home win over Cairns, who lost a sixth straight game.

Sydney ended an 11-game losing streak to Adelaide with a 93-81 away victory over the 36ers, who suffered a fourth successive loss.

Brad Newley scored 26 Jerome Randle 23 and Kevin Lisch 20 for Sydney, with Andrew Bogut tallying at least three blocks for a seventh consecutive match.

It was the final game for Adelaide guard Adris DeLeon, who is reportedly set to be replaced by former Illawarra star Demitrius Conger.

The timing of Adelaide's decision on DeLeon's prompted Bogut to take to social media.

"I have seen some crazy things playing pro sport over the last 15 odd years, but yesterday's game is up there," tweeted Bogut.

"Never seen a guy get told he is being cut from a team, and STILL play in a game the next day! Credit to the player, he handled it very well."

Later on Sunday, Bogut posted another tweet in which he invited comments on the fouls he picked up in Saturday's game .

"I cannot comment on the following video as per league rules. So here are my 4 fouls from yesterdays @NBL game. Discuss," Bogut tweeted.

The NBL may look at that tweet, but is unlikely to act on it given Bogut wasn't directly critical of the refereeing.

While Bogut was seen nursing an elbow during his time on the bench on Saturday, the Kings insisted it wasn't a concern.

Adelaide are expected to confirm signing Conger on Monday, according to the Adelaide Advertiser, and he could suit-up on Saturday at home to the Hawks.

Conger, who has been playing in France, averaged almost 20 points a game last season, was named in the All-NBL team and finished runner-up in the MVP voting to Cotton.

Meanwhile New Zealand Breakers shored up their top four position by adding a 85-84 win at Brisbane on Sunday to an 104-81 home victory over Cairns earlier in the round.

Patrick Richard scored 21 in each game and Tom Abercrombie hit a last gasp basket to clinch the victory in Brisbane.
