Australian star Andrew Bogut has been diagnosed with concussion and is set to be rested by defending NBA champions Golden State.

Centre Bogut was already wearing a face mask for a broken nose suffered before the match when he clashed heads with New Orleans Pelicans forward Dante Cunningham and copped a cut requiring stitches during the Warriors' 111-95 season-opening home win on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT).

He left the game in the third quarter and didn't return.

The Warriors said he was evaluated after the game and again the next morning and would not return to the court until he was free of concussion symptoms and passed the NBA concussion protocol.

The Warriors didn't say when Bogut was expected to return, but he'll likely miss a trip to play the Houston Rockets on Friday (Saturday AEDT) and the Pelicans on Saturday (Sunday AEDT) in New Orleans.

"Obviously, we're a much better team with him on the floor," Warriors interim coach Luke Walton said. "But there's nothing that worrying about it can help the situation."

Bogut was productive when on the floor against the Pelicans.

He made all six of his field-goal attempts for 12 points to go with five rebounds and five assists in nearly 19 minutes.
