Bogut's Mavs slump to 0-3 start

Superstar Dirk Nowitzki was again missing from the line up as the Dallas Mavericks suffered their second NBA loss to Houston Rockets within three days.

Andrew Bogut's 14 rebounds couldn't prevent his Dallas Mavericks falling to an 0-3 season start as they lost a thriller against fellow Texan NBA club Houston Rockets.

Rockets star James Harden made a free throw with 0.1 seconds left to lift his side to a 93-92 home victory on Sunday night.

It was the Mavericks' second loss to the Rockets in three days, although ageing Dallas superstar Dirk Nowitzki missed both clashes through illness and injury.

Australian centre Bogut again showed he will be a force for his new club this season in his 28 minutes on court and he added six points and three assists to his 14 boards.

Wesley Matthews led the scoring for the Mavs with 25 points while JJ Barea added 18 off the bench.

Harden, who had a game-high 28 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, had the final say when he was fouled by Matthews on a driving lay-up at the buzzer with the game tied, then made the second of two free-throw attempts.

In Oklahoma City, Russell Westbrook continued to take on much of the scoring load previously managed by departed fellow superstar Kevin Durant.

Westbrook scored 33 points as part of another triple-double to help the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Los Angeles Lakers 113-96 and remain unbeaten.

Westbrook, coming off a 51-point triple-double against the Phoenix Suns on Friday, also had 16 assists and 12 rebounds against the Lakers.

According to the Thunder, he joined Magic Johnson, Jerry Lucas and Oscar Robertson as the only players in NBA history with two triple-doubles in the first three games of a season.

The Thunder have won 20 straight regular-season games when Westbrook registers a triple-double. He clinched this one, the 39th of his career, in the third quarter and ended the game with season averages of 38.7 points, 12.3 rebounds and 11.7 assists.

Golden State Warriors downed the Phoenix Suns 106-100 as newcomer Durant top-scored with 37 points.

Stephen Curry, last season's MVP, scored two go-ahead free throws with 12.9 seconds left to play to set up the win and he finished with 26 points.

The San Antonio Spurs made it four from four in the new season with a 106-99 success over the Miami Heat as Kawhi Leonard led the way with 27 points and six assists.

The Los Angeles Clippers also retain a 100 per cent record as they beat the Utah Jazz 88-75 while the Milwaukee Bucks were downed 98-83 by the Detroit Pistons and the Memphis Grizzlies needed overtime to get the better of the Washington Wizards, winning 112-103.
