Scott Boland's chances to impress in the Australia A series have taken a hit, with the Victorian pace bowler breaking his hand during the side's clash with South Africa in Townsville.
Boland suffered the injury on Tuesday, the final day of Australia A's 10-wicket win, and he will be flown back to Melbourne for treatment.
Team physio Kevin Sims said Boland had a low-grade fracture.
"Scott will return to Melbourne for further medical review. We will then decide whether he rejoins the squad for the back end of the Quadrangular A Series for the one-day and four-day matches," he said on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old will not be replaced for the coming one-day series, which includes matches against an Indian A side, the South African A side and a National Performance squad.

The injury is a major dent to Boland's bid to work his way back into the Australian one-day side.
He has played eight games for the national side, but was most recently dropped for the final of the one-day triangular series in the West Indies in June.
Boland took two South African wickets in his only match for Australia A in the current series.
Jake Lehmann has also left the squad after he was called up to be South Australian teammate Travis Head's replacement for Yorkshire in English county cricket.
