Boland keen to learn from Aust Test squad

Scott Boland knows he is unlikely to make his Test debut at the MCG but the paceman says he can learn plenty in the nets this week.

Even if Scott Boland fails to make his Test debut in Melbourne or Sydney, the paceman knows he has an incredible opportunity to improve and impress.

Boland was called into Australia's Test squad after Nathan Coulter-Nile dislocated his right shoulder on Monday.

The Victorian is likely to be 12th man for the Boxing Day Test.

But bowling to the nation's best in the nets and working closely with national coach Darren Lehmann and bowling coach Craig McDermott is exciting in itself for the uncapped 26-year-old.

"Just to be in the squad and training with the guys - the training will go up another level from what I'm doing now," Boland said on Tuesday.

"I can still keep learning and keep bowling well and hopefully impress.

"I haven't met either of them (Lehmann or chief selector Rod Marsh) too much.

"I get to meet them properly tonight.

"To get to know them and the rest of the team will be really good."

Boland's Melbourne Stars face the Sydney Sixers on December 27, with Cricket Australia yet to determine if he will be released.

Boland suggested his call-up hadn't really sunk in properly.

"I went to a few Boxing Day Tests when I was younger. I remember watching (Matthew) Hayden and (Andrew) Symonds both make hundreds at the `G," the 26-year-old said.

"Just to be around the squad at this time of year, training at the `G, I think the atmosphere will be awesome.

"To be in the squad and recognised is pretty exciting and special.

"I texted mum and dad straight away then I gave dad a call and told him. My whole family has been so excited."
