Impressed by the energy of Nitro Athletics, Jamaican megastar Usain Bolt has declared the bold track and field experiment a success.

The revolutionary series is designed to widen the appeal of track and field, with new events such as the elimination mile and mixed relays sitting alongside traditional races and disciplines.

Bolt's All Stars squad claimed victory in the first meeting of the six-team series, 30 points clear of the Australian squad in front of a near-capacity crowd at Melbourne's Lakeside Stadium on Saturday night.

"It's good ... there was a wonderful energy and I think people really enjoyed it," Bolt said.

"I know all of the athletes have been talking about it saying that it was really good and really something different.

"That's a good sign and now we'll just wait for the media and (officials) to see if they really liked it.

"But I think, overall, it was a success."

The eight-time Olympic champion ran in the mixed 4x100m relay, against male and female competitors, in the first of three meetings.

He is contracted to run in at least one event at each meeting but told reporters on Tuesday he is yet to decide which event he will take part in on Thursday night.

"They've been throwing (ideas) out there but I'm still not sure what I'm going to do," he said.

"You never know ... I have two more days until I have to decide exactly what I'm going to run. We'll see what happens."

Bolt smiled when asked to comment on reports Sydney and Adelaide venues were already planning to lure the series away from Melbourne after it's impressive debut.

"We're trying to build track and field, that's the key thing," he said.

"So if anybody wants to poach it or try to make it bigger then it's good for the sport in general.

"So for me it's something that we want to put out there and we people to be a part of.

"It's something we want to build over time so for me it would be good, definitely."
