The term "boofhead" has been ruled unparliamentary.

Outspoken Liberal senator Bill Heffernan was ordered to withdraw the term in the Senate on Thursday after using it to describe Labor frontbencher Stephen Conroy while challenging him to a duel.

"If you want to come outside, I'll come outside, you boofhead," he said.
