Bottle murder accused stays behind bars

A man accused of murdering another man with a broken bottle in front of his elderly father in Sydney will return to court in December.

A man accused of fatally stabbing another man in the neck with a bottle at a Sydney unit block will remain behind bars.

Sateki Siale, 24, did not apply for bail when his matter came before Burwood Local Court on Monday, a day after Kelly Ventigadoo, 45, was allegedly murdered outside his Lakemba unit.

It's believed Mr Ventigadoo was chatting with his partially-deaf father when he was stabbed in the neck with a bottle.

Police earlier said their conversation wasn't offensive but they were speaking loudly and were confronted by another man.

Seconds later Mr Ventigadoo was allegedly assaulted with a bottle and died at the scene soon after from neck wounds.

Siale handed himself to police at Campsie on Sunday afternoon while a 48-year-old man was arrested but later released without charge.

The 24-year-old did not apply for bail at Burwood Local Court and it was formally refused.

The matter is due to return to court in December.
