Bowlers dominate in top-two Shield clash

South Australia are 5-80 in response to Victoria's modest 184 on an opening Sheffield Shield day dominated by the bowlers in Adelaide.

It was the bowlers who were the winners at Adelaide Oval on Friday as 15 wickets fell on the opening day of the top-of the-table Sheffield Shield clash between South Australia and Victoria.

Shield leaders Victoria were bowled out for a meagre 184, but the home side faced an even more-dire outcome after crashing to be 5-80 in a chaotic final session.

Chadd Sayers was again the star with the ball for South Australia with the Shield's leading wicket-taker returning figures of 4-40 from 19 tight overs.

Aaron Finch blasted a quickfire 49 in his return from Australian one-day international duty, yet the Bushrangers soon slipped into all sorts of trouble at 6-93.

Captain Cameron White added 45 but it took some stout rearguard action from fast bowler James Pattinson (39) to further aid the Vics' cause.

In reply, South Australia went after quick runs as is their want, only to lose wickets at regular intervals.

All five Victorian bowlers claimed a scalp with only Jake Lehmann (25no) managing to pass 20.

The two sides went into the match on the back of defeats last week, with Victoria five points clear of the second-placed Redbacks at the top of the ladder.
