Australia's boxers have slumped to their worst Commonwealth Games performance in nearly 37 years with Russian-born Alexy Mukhin going down 7-4 to Indian super-heavyweight Paramjeet Samota in the quarter-finals at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium.

It was the first time since 1974 that Australia failed to pick up a boxing medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Assistant coach Don Abnett says he is bitterly disappointed with the performances as they had high hopes before the competition.
