Champion boxer Daniel Geale has joined another Sydney boxing identity, Brad Hardman, in supporting an after-school program for local Koori kids.
And although it's still early days, the program is already seeing some encouraging results.
"Most of these kids, 99 percent of them are Koori's anyway so get them into a good mindstyle, bit of boxing training and hopefully a bit of discipline will come out of it," says Hardman.
Hardmen says the feedback and response from the kids has been great and they have relished the opportunity to take part in the program.
Aspiring boxer, Kobie Duncan says Brad Hardman is a good man to have in your corner when your chips are down.
"At the start I was on the Yarndi [marijuana] and that, smoking cigarettes...I just finally woke up to myself and thought I needed a better life, I needed to change things."
Kobie contacted Brad Hardman on Facebook and asked to start training.
He says the experience has had a dramatic impact on his life.
"It's just changed my life ever since. Now I'm starting to be a better person."
World Middleweight Champion Danny "The Real Deal" Geale has also put his hand up to be involved in mentoring and training teenagers in the Allsorts Youth Program.
He says sharing his time and his title belts with the kids is an experience he won't forget.
