The condition of Muhammad Ali is so grave that the 72-year-old can barely speak, his brother has said.

Rahman Ali made the comments at a screening of a new film about the boxing champion’s life, 'I am Ali,' which was released last week.

"I have not been able to talk to my brother about this because he is sick," he told British newspaper Sunday People.

"He doesn't speak too well. But he is proud that we are here for him. He has given this film his blessing."

Muhammad Ali, who has been battling Parkinson's disease since his diagnosis in 1984, was too ill to attend the film's premier and didn't participate in filming.

He has reportedly become increasingly frail as his condition worsened, and is mostly housebound.

The film focuses on the boxer’s life and career, featuring interviews with his family members and fellow boxing greats Mike Tyson and George Foreman.

Ali’s daughter Hana, 38, plans to screen it for her father at his home in Arizona later this month, director Clare Lewins said.
