Boy, 15, charged after Vic grass fire

A 15-year-old boy is facing charges after a grass fire was sparked in Melbourne's north last week.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged over a suspicious grass fire in Melbourne's north.

The teenager and a 16-year-old girl turned themselves in to police on Tuesday afternoon following a public appeal for information about the suspicious blaze.

The boy has since been charged with criminal damage by fire, intentionally and recklessly causing a bushfire and recklessly lighting a fire in open air during a period of fire danger.

Police say the fire started in grassland off Harvest Road in Epping about 3pm (AEDT) last Tuesday.

The boy has been released on bail to appear before a children's court at a later date.
