A five-year-old boy has been hit by a car and killed on the NSW mid north coast.

The accident happened in Kempsey at 4.45pm (AEST) on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old driver of the Nissan Pathfinder did not suffer any injuries.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner.
