The three-year-old boy hit by a country Victoria passenger train has died, Melbourne's Age reports.
The boy and a four-year-old girl were playing in the backyard of a Wallace home near the railway line when they wandered off towards the tracks.
A Country Fire Authority spokeswoman said the pair were "clipped" by the Ballarat-bound train close to Wallace station, west of Melbourne, about 11.20am (AEDT) on Monday.
The boy was placed in an induced coma and flown to the Royal Children's Hospital in a critical condition with head, chest and abdominal injuries.
A Royal Children's Hospital Spokeswoman said he remained in a critical condition early Tuesday.

The four-year-old girl received a head injury, bruising, swelling around her eye and a cut to her leg. She was taken to hospital in a stable condition for assessment.
