Brambles to benefit from US tax reform

Brambles expects a benefit of between $US125 million and $US155 million after the Trump administration's cut to the company tax rate.

ASX-listed pallets and container company Brambles expects a one-off benefit of between $US125 million and $US155 million ($A175 million and $A217 million) due to tax cuts in the US.

Brambles says the benefit is due to a reduction in deferred tax liability in the US following a decrease in the federal company tax rate from 35 to 21 per cent.

It warned, however, that apart from the tax rate reduction, there were a number of measures which could negatively impact the company.

Brambles is only one of several companies to update the market after US president Donald Trump in December signed the massive $US1.5 trillion tax overhaul into law.

Education provider Navitas last week said it expects a one-off hit of $7.5 million in its half-year accounts, while engineering group WorleyParsons expects a one-time charge of between $45 million and $60 million against its first-half profit.

Brambles on Tuesday said it would update the market on the impact of the US tax changes, and any potential impact on the group's future effective tax rate, when it releases its first-half results in February.

The company's shares were down three cents, or 0.3 per cent, at $10.04 at 1235 AEDT on Tuesday.
