Brazil dam mudslide death toll hits 121

The death toll in the Brazil's dam collapse tragedy has risen to 121 and there are still 226 people missing.

The number of people killed by a toxic mudslide triggered by the collapse of a dam at an iron ore mine in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais has risen to 121.

Some 226 others remain missing, news portal G1 reported on Saturday, citing the local fire brigade.

The dam at the Corrego do Feijao mine, operated by Brazil's Vale near the town of Brumadinho, collapsed on January 25, sending a slow-moving tsunami of toxic sludge and mud over parts of the mining site and surrounding areas.

A total of 12 million cubic metres of sludge inundated roads and homes, spilling over an area of approximately 290 hectares.

The most recent victims were found in a changing room that was buried by more than 20 metres of mud.
