The Brazilian Consul General in Sydney has been recalled by his government.

The Brazilian Foreign Affairs Department says Consul Americo Fontenelle is being investigated for alleged sexual harassment and bullying of his staff.

The department is also investigating his deputy, Cesar Cidade, over similar allegations.

If the allegations are proven, both face dismissal.

Mr Fontenelle has denied the claims.

Mr Fontenelle was appointed Consul General in Sydney in July 2010. His former postings include Rome, Santiago, New York and Toronto.

SBS Radio Portuguese Program Executive Producer, Beatriz Wagner, talked to the alleged victims in an exclusive interview which is online and will be broadcast on Sunday at 12:00pm (AEST) on SBS Radio 2.
