Brazil swim star misses Rio 2016 spot

Brazil's most famous swimmer and dual world record holder Cesar Cielo has missed out on individual qualifyication for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Former Olympic champion Cesar Cielo has missed out on an individual spot on Brazil's swimming team for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in August.

Cielo placed third in the 50-metres freestyle on Wednesday (Thursday AEST) at the Maria Lenk Championships in Rio, which was the Games qualifier for the Brazil team. He also failed to qualify earlier in the 100m freestyle.

Cielo is Brazil's most famous swimmer and is a world record holder in the 50m and 100m freestyle events.

The 29-year-old won the Olympic 50m freestyle gold medal at the Beijing 2008 Games and won a bronze medal in the 100m and is a multiple world champion. He won the bronze medal four years ago in the 50m final at the London Games.
