Several popular brands of bread rolls have been recalled in NSW following fears they may have metal fragments in them.

The state's food authority says 17 types of Coles, Mighty Soft, IGA and UB rolls with best before dates of October 2 are being pulled off the shelves over fears they may contain shards of metal from processing equipment.

Customers are advised against eating the rolls and can return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The recall comes a day before the AFL and NRL grand final weekend begins, and follows a similar recall of Aldi rolls in July.
