Breakers sign Melbourne forward Majok

New Zealand Breakers coach Kevin Braswell says his signing of athletic Melbourne United forward Majok Majok underlines a desire for up-tempo basketball.

The New Zealand Breakers have made a key signing, luring athletic forward Majok Majok away from NBL champions Melbourne United.

The Sudan-born fringe Boomer has the height and speed that new coach Kevin Braswell was after as he seeks to build a roster based around speed following the departure of predecessor Paul Henare.

"Majok is exactly the player we are after - he plays up tempo, crashes the boards at both ends and is an excitement machine above the rim," Braswell said.

"This should say plenty about how we intend to go about things this season."

Majok looked forward to joining the four-time champions on a one-season deal, having admired their toughness every time he played them.

The 25-year-old had an injury-disrupted season in 2017/18 but Braswell believes he can quickly return to the form that resulted in him joining his first Australian Boomers roster last year.

He was named in an initial 20-man squad to contest the Asia Cup.

"This past season was up and down for me, the first time for me being injured in my career and sitting out most of the season," Majok said.

"I kind of thought maybe people had forgotten what I can do."
