Victorian detectives will travel to northern NSW to interview a man accused of ambushing, chasing and shooting a teenager in a Melbourne shopping centre car park.

The 24-year-old man was arrested in Coffs Harbour on Sunday.

The teen was shot during a fight between youths at Vermont South Shopping Centre on August 19.

Police say the 19-year-old was not the shooter's intended target, but the shooting left him with permanent disabilities.

They also believe the 24-year-old man may have been involved in another gun-related attack in Surrey Hills in May.
