Hat-trick hero Brett Morris has thrust himself straight into the frame for State of Origin III, says NSW great Brad Fittler.
The question is whether it would be the right thing to pick veteran Morris for an Origin match when the series is already lost and he's only just returned from a knee injury that forced him to miss the first 15 NRL rounds.
"There's no doubt in three weeks he is our best winger," Fittler told Channel Nine's Sunday Footy Show.
"But I would have a conversation with him to see where he is at."
Morris was hugely impressive as he scored three tries while playing on the wing on return in Canterbury's 40-14 round 16 win over Brisbane on Saturday night.
Bulldogs coach Des Hasler said it was as if Morris had never been away as the NSW and Australian representative displayed his trademark speed and swerve.
But whether Hasler would be happy having Morris thrown back into the rugged cauldon of Origin for a dead rubber match after Canterbury waited so long to get him back is debatable.
Morris believes he is likely to remain on the wing for the Bulldogs rather than reverting to fullback, at least for some time, such has been the form of his custodian replacement Will Hopoate.
"The way that Hoppa's playing I don't think you can move him to be honest," Morris said.
"He's playing outstanding footy for us at the moment and certainly, with the players that we've got this year, we've changed a little bit from last year so I'm still learning our plays that involve the fullback.
"Even if I was to play fullback I'd probably be a couple of weeks away anyway."
Morris has enjoyed Hopoate's play at the back, after the Manly premiership winner moved to the Dogs from Parramatta ahead of the 2016 NRL season.
"It's always nice when you lose a position and someone comes in and fills that position and plays well," Morris said.
"It's great for the team morale and the way he's playing a lot of guys feed off the back of it.
"Moving forward it's a headache for Des to have if he wants to change positions and personnel but it's a good headache for him to have."
Morris' twin Josh missed the win over Brisbane due to a groin injury that ruled him out of State of Origin II.
But the centre is expected to be fit for the Bulldogs' next match against Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium on Thursday.
