Brisbane simply had no answer to St George Illawarra powerhouse Tariq Sims in their previous meeting in NRL.
But veteran back-rower Alex Glenn believes the Broncos have found the solution before Thursday night's re-match - young gun David Fifita.
Brisbane are still smarting from their 48-18 thumping by the Dragons in last year's elimination final, inspired by a runaway Sims.
NSW forward Sims was unstoppable, steamrolling his way to a first-half hat-trick of tries that stunned a packed Suncorp Stadium.
However, Glenn has backed 19-year-old Fifita to stand up to Sims when they go head-to-head as Brisbane search for payback in their round three clash with the winless Dragons.
Asked if 186cm, 107kg Fifita was up to the Sims challenge, Glenn said: "For sure.
"You look at what David Fifita has brought to our team, he has the same capabilities as Tariq Sims.
"He's got a strong game, good footwork and defends well."
Fifita is in just his second NRL season but is full of confidence after nailing down a starting back-row spot under coach Anthony Seibold.
And he seemed far from fazed by the prospect of staring down the 193cm, 106kg Sims.
"I like coming up against the big dogs," Fifita said.
"Tariq will be on my side, he will be coming at us hard. We will see."
Fifita sounded like a man out to prove a point after Sims made sure the Brisbane forward's finals debut last year ended in heartache.
"That was my first final. It wasn't the way we wanted it to go," Fifita, who played 11 games in his debut 2018 season, said.
"They came out real hard and that is what we are expecting on Thursday night.
"But we are prepared. We won't hold back."
Brisbane's young pack dominated North Queensland in last week's 29-10 win after a powerhouse first-half display by Tevita Pangai.
But Glenn said they were wary of the Dragon, predicting another stirring Sims-inspired effort.
"Last year they wanted it more. It will be the same this week he said.
"They have had two tough losses and they will want to rectify that, come up here and prove a point.
"And nothing has changed in his (Sims') game. He is going to be coming in steamrolling us."
