Brisbane customs seize huge steroids haul

Customs officers at Brisbane Airport have allegedly found 5500 steroid tablets on a female passenger arriving from Thailand.

Customs officers have seized a large haul of steroids at Brisbane Airport.

The 5500 tablets were found in a female passenger's suitcase after she arrived from Thailand on Monday.

Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS) says officers found the tablets in sachets labelled "Lavender Bath and Soak Salt" and several vitamin bottles.

ACBPS spokesman Craig Sommerville says the seizure shows how hard his team is working to find illicit substances.

"No matter how these prohibited substances are concealed, our highly trained officers have the intelligence, technology and expertise to detect them," he said in a statement.

Although the goods may be legal overseas, they're prohibited in Australia and can only be imported with a permit.

People caught importing steroids illegally face fines of up to $170,000 or five years in prison.
