Brisbane man critical after punch assault

A man remains in intensive care after being punched by another man following an 'exchange of words' on a South Brisbane street.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident that took place around 10.15am on Saturday in Melbourne St.

It's alleged after the confrontation, one of the men turned back and punched the 48-year-old man in the head and walked off.

The 48-year-old was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital and police say he remains in the intensive care unit.

Police have released CCTV footage of the man they want to speak with which was captured as he walked past Fox Hotel.

He's described as about 170cm tall, with short dark hair and shirtless, but wearing black running shorts with a red top tucked in to the waistband.
