A Brisbane man has died two days after being knocked unconscious in a fight on a city street.

The 38-year-old from Arana Hills, in Brisbane's northwest, sustained serious head injuries during the fight early on Sunday morning.

Police said it appeared that the man and a woman were arguing on the footpath of Queen Street near the intersection with Wharf Street when another man intervened just before 4am (AEST).

A fight then started between the men, resulting in the 38-year-old being knocked unconscious.

He died in the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital on Tuesday, police said.

A man has spoken with detectives about the incident, after presenting himself to the Petrie Police Station on Sunday.

Police say investigations are continuing.
