The damage bill from Brisbane's destructive supercell storm has shot up to nearly $500 million.

Nearly 69,000 insurance claims have been lodged, including more than 17,500 house and content claims and 51,000-plus vehicle claims.

Estimated insurance losses have risen to $482 million, up about $200 million from two days ago, the Insurance Council of Australia says.

Chief executive Rob Whelan says insurers are working closely with policyholders to process their claims.

There are reports insurance claims could take several months to process before the damage is repaired as insurers juggle the flurry of claims.

A supercell storm tore through Brisbane last Thursday.
