Broken ankle floors Fire WNBL star Wilson

Star Townsville point guard Kelly Wilson has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a fractured ankle.

Townsville's stuttering WNBL title defence has suffered a blow with star point guard Kelly Wilson sidelined for up to six weeks with a broken ankle.

The 31-year-old limped off during the fifth-placed Fire's home 85-83 win over Sydney Uni last Saturday.

Scans revealed Wilson, who had 10 points and seven assists before the injury, fractured her left distal fibula.

"She's one of the premier point guards in the WNBL," Townsville coach Claudia Brassard said.

"She's done a good job running our team through the first five rounds of the season, but we're going to have to adjust."

The back-to-back champions have called in 16-year-old Haylee Andrews as her replacement ahead of a trip to Victoria to face Bendigo and Melbourne on the weekend.
