The lessons learned from Wade Graham's State of Origin suspension seems to have transferred to Melbourne, with prop Jesse Bromwich opting to fight a dangerous throw charge.
Bromwich would have escaped suspension had he pleaded guilty for the first-half tackle on St George Illawarra's Euan Aitken, but he now risks a one-match suspension by challenging it at the NRL judiciary.
If Bromwich accepted the original charge, he would have taken 93 carry-over points as a result.
That will now be reduced to zero if he wins, or 25 if he is found guilty and misses Melbourne's clash with the Wests Tigers at AAMI Park on Sunday.
It's likely Bromwich will argue that teammate Ben Hampton placed Aitken in a dangerous decision, after the playmaker avoided a suspension by taking the early plea.
Graham's high tackle charge for his hit on Johnathan Thurston wouldn't have earned him a one-match ban alone, but carry-over points and weighting from an early guilty plea in last year's finals series ultimately cost Graham an Origin debut for NSW in Brisbane on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile South Sydney backrower Paul Carter will miss the Rabbitohs' trip to Penrith on Friday night after he pleaded guilty to a dangerous contact charge on Parramatta's Corey Norman.
Manly's Matthew Wright can also escape suspension if he pleads guilty to a grade-two careless high tackle on William Zillman in the 79th minute of Monday night's 20-point loss to the Gold Coast.
Parramatta's Vai Toutai and the Warriors' Toafofoa Sipley will also avoid time on the sideline after they pleaded guilty to their respective high tackle and dangerous contact charges.
