Broncos aim to become NRL road warriors

Instead of NRL road kill, Brisbane aim to become the league's road warriors ahead of Saturday's clash with Newcastle Knights.

Right now Brisbane are NRL road kill.

But Broncos coach Anthony Seibold is confident they will transform into the NRL's road warriors ahead of Saturday's clash in Newcastle.

Desperate to stay in the top eight hunt, Seibold appears to have made the radical decision to swap fullback Darius Boyd with five-eighth Anthony Milford to snap a worrying two-game losing streak.

It seems the 12th-placed Broncos had to try something to stay in the top eight mix.

Especially after it was revealed Brisbane have won just one of six games on the road this year, triumphing only over the Warriors in round 11 and averaging just 10.3 points per match away.

But Seibold was quietly confident the Broncos would emerge a different side on Saturday.

"We have been consistent at home but we've got to be better on the road," he said.

"Against the Warriors we were good away but the others we haven't performed near our potential.

"So (against Newcastle) it is a massive game."

Brisbane's starts are also a concern.

The Broncos have struggled in the first half this year, scoring just 77 points - the equal fewest in the league.

"It comes back to attitude and preparation," Seibold said when quizzed on their woeful starts.

"But across the entire season in our first halves we have only averaged 46 per cent possession.

"You need the footy no matter if you are playing at Suncorp or in Sydney.

"We haven't given ourselves a chance but it is a new week, we are going down there to do a job."

A defeat at the hands of Newcastle would mark a streak of three straight losses in the same season for Brisbane for the first time since 2013.

"It's not an excuse but the reality is that we have the youngest team in the competition - there are eight guys there with less than 25 games," Seibold said.

"But we have a talented group and we will get better there is no doubt about that.

"However, we need to close the gap between our best and our worst."
