On the day Adam Blair was expected to be announced as the man to lead Brisbane into the NRL finals, the prop has been linked with a lucrative move to the Warriors.

The New Zealand skipper has been earmarked as the player to replace Broncos captain Darius Boyd (hamstring) for Friday night's NRL qualifying final against Sydney Roosters.

Blair said on Tuesday that he had put contract talks on hold.

"The most important thing is to focus on footy at the moment," he said.

"It's lingering around but I have put it aside at the moment.

"It will get sorted hopefully soon."

But reports claim the 31-year-old has already agreed to a four-year Warriors deal and will be unveiled along with Cronulla's Gerard Beale by the New Zealand franchise.

Contracted until the end of the 2018 season, Blair was last month given permission by Brisbane to negotiate with rival clubs for an early release with St George Illawarra and Newcastle touted as interested parties.

Asked if he could be playing his final games for Brisbane, Blair said: "I just want to play my part for the team, doing everything I can to win a game for Brisbane.

"But it (contract talks) has been hard, a big decision has to come from it.

"I am just trying to enjoy what is left here, if things change after this."

The Warriors are desperate to rejuvenate their playing squad after missing the finals the past six seasons.

Blair looks set to hold onto the Brisbane captaincy for the time being with fullback Boyd no guarantee of returning next week after he suffered a hamstring injury in last week's win over North Queensland.

"It would be a great honour and achievement to captain the Broncos in such a big match but I haven't been told yet," Blair said.

Brisbane forward Josh McGuire backed Blair to lead the Broncos despite the ongoing contract dramas.

"I expect him to play no differently to be honest," he said.

"He is a leader of this team and doesn't need to be captain to change that."

Forward Tevita Pangai Junior (hamstring) is doubtful for the Roosters clash after being restricted to light duties with Boyd at Tuesday's training session.

It would be another injury blow to Brisbane who are already without hooker Andrew McCullough (knee) and prop Korbin Sims (broken arm) for the finals.
