Broncos brace for double Sims trouble

St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor has warned Brisbane that ex-Bronco Korbin Sims is fired up to prove a point against his former NRL club.

Just one fired-up Sims was too much to handle for Brisbane last year.

But St George Illawarra have warned the Broncos will have to brace themselves for two in Thursday night's NRL clash.

The Broncos are no doubt still having nightmares about their last encounter with the Dragons after rampaging back-rower Tariq Sims inspired a 48-18 elimination final win with a quick-fire hat-trick of tries last year.

And now brother and ex-Bronco Korbin is primed to step up alongside his feared sibling for his Dragons debut.

Dragons coach Paul McGregor said 189cm, 108kg powerhouse Korbin was still smarting over his treatment by Brisbane after being cut loose due to salary cap restrictions and would be out to prove a point.

"Korbin is definitely excited about playing his former team there is no doubt about that," McGregor said.

"He was moved due to the circumstances that they didn't have enough money to keep him.

"When that happens to a player they have a point to prove and Korbin will be no different."

McGregor said there was no lack of motivation for Korbin against his former club, especially after an emotional Dragons jersey presentation ahead of the round three clash.

"We had a jumper presentation by his older brother. It was a very proud moment for himself and his family," he said.

"You will see that reaction on Thursday night."

While Brisbane may be suddenly dreading it, McGregor said Korbin's debut could not come soon enough after the joint venture began 2019 with two straight losses without NSW forwards Jack de Belin (suspension) and Tyson Frizell (injury).

"He brings a quality forward that we have been missing the first couple of weeks," he said.

"We need him to run hard, play the ball fast and stay in our defensive systems and let them know he is out there."

McGregor then added ominously: "He has a very good tackling technique that can cut people in half".
