Brisbane have one of the proudest NRL records of any club but they are facing a daunting hoodoo against Melbourne to qualify for a grand final berth.
While Brisbane have six premiership trophies in their cabinet and are widely seen as the glamour club of the competition, the record books show the Storm have dominated their long and storied rivalry.
In 42 meetings, the Storm have been victorious on 28 occasions including 12 of their past 14 encounters.
According to Fox Sports Stats, the Broncos' 31 per cent winning record against the Storm is their worst strike rate against any current rival club.
Not only that, the Storm are one of only two teams in the competition -- along with Manly (21 wins, 21 losses, 1 draw) -- against whom they have a winning record of less than 50 per cent.
It's a startling record when viewed in light of the fact that during their 30-year history the Broncos have won 468 of their 757 league games.
"With all due respect, it's a different game," Storm coach Craig Bellamy said.
"It's a bigger game than most we've played against them.
"That's a nice stat for our history but that's not going to matter tomorrow night."
The Broncos-Storm rivalry was born out of Brisbane's 2006 grand final win, a result which is still shrouded in controversy and a sore point for many of those who were involved.
The Storm complained about several dubious decisions -- including Matt King being denied a try because of a Ryan Hoffman offside while Shaun Berrigan appeared to knock-on while scoring the opening try.
Despite losing their biggest ever match up, the Storm have a dominant record over the Broncos in finals clashes having won five of their seven post-season encounters, including their last three.
"We never pencil games into the calendar to be quite honest," Bellamy said, when asked if they looked forward to facing the Broncos.
"There's a healthy rivalry there, there's a lot of Queensland guys in our team that play Origin.
"Guys that play together at rep footy, there's a little edge there.
"We're also two out-of-town teams too."
